Hi Leland,

You are correct on SIS not providing these links on their homepage as they are not maintaining these pages at this time. I will update this information immediately.

A few helpful links to check out since this May post:

-Twitter Pages such as @firstmarketbank and @bofa_help using background design to communicate certain safety/compliance standards to followers.
-Facebook Pages such as our newly launched client Spencer Savings Bank who incorporate safety and financial relationship information (FDIC/DIF/EHL) via designed ads on the left hand side of the Page as well as the short Page bio, and a "Security" tab for Fans.

Also, creating online/social media interaction guidelines for your employees is common practice to help ease the minds of those compliance groups you mentioned.

Thanks for your feedback--

There are still quite a few banks whose compliance groups are having heart palpitations about social media / networking because the regulatory environment is so far behind the curve with respect to guidance and basic networking risk principles'.

BTW, SIS does not have the FB Twitter links on the home page anymore...

Great post Christine. The internet is an indispensable resource for me as well. When I need to unclog a drain, or start seeds for my garden, I look online.

And, somehow, this blog post seems related. I just came across this question, this morning: http://kylelacy.com/is-gen-y-going-to-leave-facebook/

The subsequent comments are most interesting.

Tara,
Thanks for the shout out to our post on the YP. Since I wrote that, every client I have queried about the YP says they are either eliminating or drastically reducing their YP spend.
Basically, everyone goes first to the internet with Google or the search engine of their choice. Behavior has simply changed and will not revert.

I'm loyal to Tweetdeck. I've been using it for about 4 months now. Until I start reading about improvements to Twhirl or the creation of something else that can top Tweetdeck, I'm sticking with it. I haven't noticed any performance issues. I find that Tweetdeck + Hootsuite.com (for managing multiple accounts and scheduling Tweets) is a great combination.

Meagan. I enjoyed reading this.

Great point here:"My growth (especially on company time) should correlate with my company’s. Brands that encourage motivated employees to keep developing their own professional presence (especially online) can greatly benefit from the results."

I wonder if the lines become more blurred when it comes to online presence and its' reflection of different areas of physical offline existence, especially for 20- and 30- somethings, digital natives compared to digital immigrants? Maybe there is more of a comfort-level with becoming a "brandividual" because is is more inherent to certain groups versus others. Either way, it's an evolution of social media becoming more and more integrated into our society and everyday lives - something to continue to observe, learn from and hopefully get involved with if we aren't already!

Staying connected is what it's all about!

It's fascinating to watch these numbers grow and change and watch our culture respond to the Facebook phenomenon. I have so many questions and fantasies about the ways in which Facebook will change the world. Their "mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected."

How will that evolve and manifest? What does it mean to be more open and connected? Will people behave differently? Make different choices? Will the new transparency so many are pointing to make us a more ethical, and moral society?

It's going to be fun to participate in this revolution of sorts... don't you think?
